CILIA-T Civics/History Integrated Adult ESOL Instruction
This 16-module, open-access curriculum integrates U.S. history and civics content with academic English proficiency and digital skills. Developed by adult educators, CILIA-T was designed to help students expand their vocabulary, knowledge, and essential technology use, while also encouraging community participation and deep analysis of high-interest topics.
The teacher-friendly, standards-aligned curriculum can be taught in person, online, or in a hybrid format. It is designed for English language learners (intermediate-advanced), pre-GED/GED learners, civics/citizenship learners, and basic literacy skills learners.
Click on “Curriculum” in the page’s top menu to access the modules, which include topics such as Digital Literacy Basics, Forms of Government, the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and American Revolution, Industrialization and Labor, and Civil Rights and Beyond.
Funded by the Institute for Education Sciences and led by the University of Minnesota Duluth, CILIA-T standards for Content-Integrated Language Instruction for Adults with Technology Support.
