Details

This webinar will explain in a clear, simple way how the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA)/H.R.1 changes access to food assistance and health coverage for refugees, asylees, and other immigrants. It is designed for anyone who serves immigrant communities, even if they do not currently offer benefits or legal services.

Objectives

  • Understand the main H.R.1 changes to SNAP, Medicaid, CHIP, and similar public benefits for newcomers.
  • Learn when key changes are scheduled to take effect so staff can track timelines and avoid surprises.
  • Be aware of early warning signs that clients are being cut off or denied, and know how to respond.
  • Emphasize why sharing accurate, language‑accessible information supports newcomers’ right to make informed, self‑directed choices.
  • Prepare your organization (and clients) with simple plans for outreach, referrals, and internal coordination before and as changes roll out.

After this session, participants will

  • Feel more prepared to talk with community members about possible changes to their food and health benefits, without giving legal advice.
  • Assist refugee and immigrant communities through informed guidance and support, while honoring their self‑determination.
  • Have ideas for how to share information inside their own programs.
  • Know where to look for updated information and resources.

Due to strong interest in our first session in early May, we are offering this webinar again. Bring your questions and refresh your knowledge.

Important notes

  • This is an educational session only; it is not legal advice.
  • Presenters will share general information and public resources but cannot guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or ongoing availability of any outside resource shared.
  • We will review and respond to questions submitted at registration after the main presentation, as time allows.
  • Participants will be encouraged to consult qualified legal or accredited representatives for individual cases.
  • The session will not be recorded.
