Matt’s Story

by Matt Sanders

I like the painting of Maud McLaurine Hurt because she is watching me. She is sitting in a chair and holding a book. Her picture is in the Chester Library. I think she was smart because she read. I think she liked to eat food and shop at K-Mart. I love her picture.

photo shows author, wearing a football team sweatshirt, smiling and standing in front of a portrait and plaque. The portrait shows a white-haired woman, seated, wearing a black dress or robe; part of the text on the plaque is visible, reading "Dedicated to the ... of Maud McLaurine Hurt ... for her inspiration ... in making possible a library in Chesterfield"
