Career Pathways in Healthcare: A Success Story from PREP

After migrating to the United States, EJ enrolled in ESL classes through the Peninsula Regional Education Program (PREP) in March 2022 to improve her English skills. In 2025, she simultaneously participated in GED^® preparation and the Integrated Education and Training (IET) Healthcare Bootcamp, building both academic and workforce skills at the same time.

With the support and guidance PREP’s dedicated teachers and tutors throughout her journey, EJ earned her GED^® credential and, upon completion, transitioned into postsecondary training at Virginia Peninsula Community College. There, she completed the Medical Coding and Billing program and earned a certification, along with training in medical office administration.

Following completion of her training, EJ secured employment as a front desk associate at a medical office. She reports that the skills gained through PREP’s classes directly support her success in the workplace today.
