Karen Ballengee
keballengee@vcu.eduAs the Assistant Instructional Technology Specialist at VALRC, I work on the design and layout of PROGRESS news journal, 508 compliance, assist with the website, create graphics, and assist with technology projects. I have an Ed.S. in learning technologies and design from the University of Missouri-Columbia, an M.Ed. in instructional technology from North Carolina State University, and a B.A. in music education from Shepherd University (WV) as well as certificates in graphic design technology, user experience and usability, and online teaching.
Before working at VALRC, I was a clarinet player in the U.S. Army music program where I played music in 23 countries and 18 states and lived in Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Germany. I am originally from Maryland and currently reside in the Richmond area. In what little spare time I have, I enjoy spoiling my handsome rescue Pomeranian and newly-acquired tuxedo cat, participating in spin classes and cycling events, and playing various woodwind instruments in local music groups.
