Jeffrey Elmore Bio Pic

As the Adult Academic Programming Specialist, in collaboration with the other VALRC Specialists, I work with Regional Program Managers and other leadership staff to implement regional professional development in accordance with local program needs and goals. I also work with programs that have implemented the National External Diploma Program to train new staff and to keep existing staff current with the demands of the NEDP. For programs wishing to begin participation in the National External Diploma Program, I work with them to take the necessary steps building the foundation of a successful program. Under the College and Career Readiness Standards initiative, I create and deliver College and Career Readiness Standards aligned professional development for classroom instructors around the content and practices necessary for completing high school equivalency. Within this scope, my primary focus is mathematics instruction.

I began my career in adult education in 1995 when I went to South Korea to teach adult ESL classes. I returned to the U.S. permanently in 2004 to teach GED classes for the Virginia Department of Correctional Education at Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women, and in 2009 I began my position here at the Virginia Adult Learning Resource Center. In 2001 I earned a M.Ed. in adult education from Virginia Commonwealth University.
