Ends: Mon, 23 Nov 2009 at 4:00 PM
Description: Instructing the Adult Learner: The Field of Adult Education
This training will help ABE/GED instructors place their classrooms and learners in the wider context of adult education in Virginia and in the U.S. Participants will consider the unique characteristics of adult learners, with a focus on strategies for encouraging persistence. Participants will also investigate formative and summative assessment and goal setting, in light of both their individual learners’ needs and state policy requirements.
This six-hour workshop is the first step in completing Level One of Virginia’s ABE/GED Instructor certification Program. The trainings that make up the Virginia Adult Educator Certification Program are designed to be immediately practical for classroom instructors and to provide the standard platform of knowledge and skills that is needed as our field continues to become more professional, more accountable, and more focused on helping adults achieve their educational goals.
