Goal:
To increase skills in developing coherent, comprehensive, and appropriate reading lessons based on promising practices.

Objectives:
At the end of the workshop, participants should be able to …

Identify types of native language literacy
Identify models of reading
Describe knowledge and skills important to the reading process
Identify elements of a good reading lesson
Create a coherent, comprehensive, and appropriate reading lesson that develops each of the four skills important to reading.

Important Note: In order to attend this workshop, you will be asked to complete an on-line overview of Virginia’s Adult ESOL Content Standards. Some of you have already done so or completed it in order to attend the Teaching Reading workshop held earlier this year. Others will need to do this before the workshop.
