Content Standards (ESOL)

Virginia's Adult Education Content Standards for English for Speakers of Other Languages Instruction and Complimentary Instructional Resources.

The Adult Education Content Standards for English for Speakers of Other Languages Instruction are organized by levels of proficiency described by the National Reporting System (NRS). These levels are further organized by language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Within each language skill, benchmarks and progress indicators describe what a learner should know and be able to do in order to exit to the next level.

Teacher resources for implementing the standards are provided at each level of proficiency and skill. These include suggestions for classroom activities and examples of student performance for each progress indicator. Helpful checklists for both teachers and students are, also, provided.
