Victoire Sanborn Bio PicAs Literacy Specialist at VALRC, I work closely with the Virginia Literacy Foundation to provide professional development, technical resources, and professional development and train the trainer workshops to the staff of Virginia’s nonprofit community-based literacy organizations. My specialties in program management are facilitating grant writing, strategic planning, marketing and outreach, and board development workshops. I also facilitate professional learning communities in incorporating technology in the classroom and workshops in reading, financial literacy, health literacy, and PIVA Pathways, a workforce curriculum for adult learners who read below the 4th grade level.

I emigrated from The Netherlands with my family when I was nine and clearly remember learning English from my classmates. I’ve attended Notre Dame of Maryland University, The Maryland Institute of Art, and Boston University. At Virginia Commonwealth University, I received a graduate certificate in nonprofit management and belong to the first cohort that completed the Emerging Nonprofit Leaders Program. My journey in adult literacy and education began in 1989 as tutor, tutor trainer, and community relations director. I have been with VALRC since 2000. On a personal note, I manage the Jane Austen’s World blog, which just turned 10 million hits after nine years of blogging.
